What is Psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy usually involves the client and therapist meeting for regularly scheduled
hour-long sessions, during which they explore the client's issues, the emotions
and beliefs surrounding them, the origins of those beliefs, and the ways they are
manifesting themselves in day-to-day life and current relationships; alternative
views and options are often identified and tried out.
The length of therapy depends on many factors unique to the individual and to the
scope of issues to be addressed. Generally, the client senses that therapy
has been successfully completed when major challenges have been overcome.
They will notice that they have new energy, interest, and enthusiasm about other
aspects of their life - as well as the confidence to tackle new challenges on their
own.
Successful psychotherapy also depends on a commitment to attend regular sessions.
Many clients find that weekly sessions are the most productive. Others feel
that bi-weekly sessions are the right amount of time for them.

What is an LPC?
LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor)
A licensed professional counselor is a mental health professional who has met the
educational and training requirements including at least a Master's degree from
an accredited college or university, supervised professional clinical experience,
and successful completion of a state examination. The LPC designation indicates
that the therapist is licensed by the state to practice psychotherapy and that the
individual has completed the licensing requirements. Continuing education
hours are required to maintain the license. LPC's typically work with problems
that are psychologically and emotionally based, including depression, anxiety, addictions,
interpersonal issues, etc. No individual is allowed to use the designation
LPC unless he or she is licensed by the state in which they practice.

The Therapy Process
A therapy hour consists of fifty minutes together and ten minutes for session record
keeping. The initial session is focused on obtaining background information
as well as identifying difficulties, concerns and strengths. Following the
assessment we will work together to develop the direction of therapy, define goals
and determine the frequency of sessions. Future sessions will be more therapeutic
in nature. Progress is monitored and discussed together.
